I would venture a guess, this horse stands in the field and bugs the calves all the time. He was such a character! We parked beside the pasture and watched this going on for half an hour. The calf was so used to the horse, he never once bothered to move. He laid right there and let this appie horse pester him with a hoof. Who knows, maybe they had an arrangement, and the horse was just scratching his back for him.

Elk photos for artist reference.

I've uploaded some great photos of elk. If you need some reference material for your paintings, you'll love these. It's fall, so the elk are bugling and the bulls are chasing the cows around, and vice versa. These are tame elk, but they look just the same as wild ones, put them into a mountain setting, and you've got a great painting!

Percheron, draft horse photo, exclusive for sale to artist.

If you love to paint draft horses, here's a great photo to work from. This young horse was learning beside his team mate. The event was a thrashing bee, so there was a lot of excitement around the team. The older horse handled it all with aplomb, teaching the youngster as they went along.

Wild cow milking, ranch rodeo.

Wild cow milking is probably the most exciting event to watch. The cows aren't very co-operative, the cowboys get a workout.

Porcupine, wildlife photo.

Yup, this is a blur! This porcupine was traveling away from me as fast as he could go, I was running along beside him trying to take photos as he went. I was afraid he'd get away from me, and this would be all I'd get!

But I knew from experience when I was a kid, a porcupine doesn't run very far without getting tired. I hoped he'd stop before long to take a good look at me. That is what he finally did in the bottom photo. He was a very kind porcupine, he didn't try to swat at me with his tail, he just sat and looked at me as he caught his breath.

It's kind of crazy, but so long as a porcupine isn't filling my dog or horse's nose with quills, I kind of like them. They're very peaceful little animals. They actually have the cutest faces...Just don't get to close to them.

Coyote on a round bale, Wildlife photo.

This is what happens when you need the $10,000 lens for your camera! You see the neatest things, and can't quite capture them.

We were driving to visit my parents when Robert spotted a coyote laying on top of a round bale. He was a quarter mile away from where I was, but I tried taking photos anyway. I've enhanced this and sharpened it to death, but at least you can see the coyote.

It isn't a good reference photo but it does give you an idea of the things wildlife are capable of! They're quite funny when you're out there watching for them.
